Alex Dumouchelle
Alex Dumouchelle is a software engineer from Northern Virginia with a relentless passion for music. No matter what stage of life, music has been filling in the gaps of work and study for years. While getting a degree in Computer Science at James Madison University, Alex also defined a major in the Independent Scholars program where he studied music technology and took on two music minors with general music and music industry. Constantly mixed in his schedule were ensembles such as the Jazz Band, Chorale Mixed Choir, Tenor/Bass Choir, and JMU Brass Band. He also played sousaphone with the Marching Royal Dukes for three seasons and served as a drum major his senior year.
Trained as a euphonium player, Alex picked up tenor horn in 2021 and played with the JMU band for two NABBA contests, performing as solo horn his final year. He very quickly joined the Cherry Blossom Brass Band post graduation after hearing about its existence. While at NABBA 2024 with the Cherry Blossom Brass Band, Alex took 2nd place in the Tenor/Flugelhorn technical solo contest.
Alex also has a rich drum corps career. He marched with Jersey Surf in 2018 while a junior in high school, and moved on to march The Cadets from 2019-2022. Every year he was at The Cadets, Alex had a range of solos and small group features, including being the tenor horn soloist in the 2022 season.
He is now an active participant in the music education space, teaching marching bands in the fall and drum corps in spring and summer. He is also the creator and lead developer of OpenMarch, a free and open source drill writing software that is in active development.
